I’ve recently just looked through my timeline on Twitter, and I tell you what I saw there was marvellous; tweet after tweet after tweet with the hashtag ‘Inglorious12th’, it really does restore some of the lost faith I had that when you give people information about what they need to do, why it is important that they get it done, and give them the means to do it- they are galvanised into action.
In this case, people are starting to wake up and smell the dead grouse, literally!, the simple fact is that this is wrong, and however much good it is said to do to the environment, or even however much good it really does do to the environment- it cannot add up to anything when stacked against the odds of it harming the wildlife and as a result; the environment in which they live. Most people just don’t know about this, if I’m really honest, useless practice; they don’t know that by simply just standing in one place and aiming at an innocent bird that doesn’t know any better and has the slimmest chance of escaping (you call that sport?! Enjoyment?! You don’t have to do anything!! Pathetic excuse for sport if you ask me!!), people are also devastating the landscape by removing some of the most beautiful birds the world (that’s right, I said world!) has ever seen- the Golden eagles, the buzzards, goshawks, and of course- the hen harriers. And not only this, but they also don’t know that thousands of pounds are being spent to simply experience this- I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a massive waste of money, which would be much more useful being invested elsewhere.
Now, I don’t want you to think that I’m acting in blind rage against this- as you should never act in blind rage- but I am angry, and you should be too; this is wildlife crime, and criminals should be punished, but more importantly, the crime should be stopped.
So I urge you to read Inglorious (if only to understand what’s going on), step up and act for wildlife everywhere and add your voice by tweeting with #Inglorious12th.
If your still a bit unsure, then have a read of this, it’s a bit old, but the information still rings strong and true: https://raptorpersecutionscotland.wordpress.com/2011/08/12/welcome-to-the-inglorious-twelfth/
