Bumblebee Ambassador

I am very, very proud to be an Ambassador for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a position I hold with great enthusiasm and far too much rambling involved…

I have loved bumblebees and pollinators since I was but a wee ‘un, and growing up in urban London meant my early experiences with nature was generally limited to the tiny, many legged kind.

Living in and around bugs all the time, I grew to be probably quite obsessed by the striped black and yellows constantly chased out of houses and round parks, but keeping such a wonderful, lazy, beautiful grace about them…

As an ambassador I am involved in raising awareness to the many issues bumblebees face, getting involved with these issues surrounding conservation of bumblebees and of the natural habitats that exist to protect these insects, via speaking, sharing on social media and writing about them in any way I can!

Because of this position I have had many, MANY opportunities, both to speak about bumblebees and pollinators, and to travel to see them, including the HUGE opportunity to present a short film I made on the Reintroduction of the Short Haired Bumblebee, at the Reintroduction and Rewilding Summit hosted by Chris Packham and Megan Mcubbin, which you can see more about on the FILM MAKING AND PRESENTING page…

…and also a few months back where I travelled to RSPB Dungeness (pictured above) to observe the great diversity the reserve had for bees, and speak to author Hannah Bourne, as I am to be featured in her new book as the “bumblebee person” *insert bee joke*… I also got the chance to speak at the 2021 AGM and Supporters Event, a really fantastic experience…

…I’ve also had the chance to speak on the radio multiple times about bees and pollinators and my love of them, including BBC Radio 2 and other stations, alongside comedian Rob Beckett and BBCT CEO Gill Perkins, which you can view on the PODCAST AND RADIO page.

There are future events coming up where I will be gabbling EVEN MORE about Bumblebees, so stay tuned!!!

Buff tailed bumblebee Queen!

I am a great believer that the base organisms for most of our environment and ecosystems are Bumblebees and pollinators, and in a wider umbrella, INSECTS, so the chance to be able to work with them as much as I can, and possibly more in the future, really makes my heart beat ever faster…

Beautiful little bee box!
